Today’s guest is our friend Shelley O’Donnell from Divine Party Concepts.com. Shelley is an event planner who stopped by to share some fabulous ideas for hosting a Valentine’s Day party for your family. Take a look at Shelley’s ‘love’ly ideas:
Valentine’s Day does not have to be solely reserved for couples or sweethearts. This is a great day to spend with your family and let them know how much they mean to you. We all lead such busy lives and spend so much time with jobs and extra-curricular activities, making this is a great time to slow down and enjoy some special time as a family.
Start by decorating with a kid favorite – balloons. You can tie red and pink balloons around the house or just fill one room with them making a beautiful ceiling of red and pink color. If you have been too busy to take down your Christmas tree then leave it up and decorate it for Valentine’s Day. A Valentine’s Day tree can be filled with hearts, red and pink ornaments and simple love notes for members of your family.
After decorating together, start Valentine’s Day morning with a special breakfast that everyone can enjoy as a family, before going off in your own different directions. Come back together that night to have a Valentine pizza together. It might be fun to break away from the kitchen and have a picnic in the living room by the fire or with Valentine candles.
For dessert, let everyone decorate their own heart shaped cookies. Use pink, red and white frosting and choose from a variety of red and pink candies.
Homemade gifts are always fun to give! You can give each other special notes throughout the day to tell each person something you love about them. Another great gift that is easy to make is a coupon book with special incentives for each person.
End the night together by playing your favorite games as a family or doing a fun craft together. I love the family ‘craft-off’ idea from Living Locurto where each member of the family has to create something out of random items provided in a muffin pan. This could be competitive, interesting and FUN!!!
No matter what you choose to do, remember that the idea for Valentine’s Day is to spend quality time as a family. Show each family member how much you love them!
Happy Valentine’s Day!!!
