Many consider Memorial Day to be the official kickoff of summer. Memorial Day has it all – a long weekend, outdoor barbecues and (hopefully) nice weather. How’s that for three great reasons to party. So let’s start planning, we’ll help you start the summer off right!
The most popular Memorial Day party plan (besides getting out of town) is certainly celebrating with a fabulous barbecue. Burgers, chicken and hot dogs are the barbecue standards, but why not kick things up a notch and experiment with your menu. Sure, you can still have the traditional burgers and dogs on hand, but you could also offer your guests a little something special this year.
We found some mouth-watering recipes from Delish.com that you could easily create yourself. Take a look at this mozzarella stuffed turkey burger, and these grilled rosemary-salmon skewers, yummy right? You could add some flair to a classic, and cook up some butterflied grilled chicken with a chile lime rub? If you decide to experiment with more intricate barbecue dishes for the main course, give yourself a break and keep snacking appetizers simple. Chips and dip, veggie platters, fruit salad and chips and salsa make for great munchies before the main course.
Now, that you have the great food covered, let’s talk entertainment. The best barbecues include awesome music, which is why a live band would make a great Memorial Day party selection. Rock bands, cover bands and country bands would also make for great outdoor barbecue entertainment!
If you plan on keeping things family friendly, it’s always a good idea to add some entertainment specifically for the little ones. Bounce houses are popular and affordable options for outdoor barbecues. The kids will love it, and other parents will be appreciative as well. Balloon twisters and face painters are also great entertainment options for the kiddies. The more fun they are having, the more time you get to socialize with your guests.
If you want to really go all out this year, perhaps you could get the whole neighborhood involved and plan a Memorial Day block party. Combine forces with your neighbors to plan an amazing party, and possibly start a new tradition!
